Iraq Blast Kills Dozens
Story aired: Thursday, March 10, 2005

At least 36 people are dead after a suicide bomber attacked a funeral in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul today.

The bomber blew himself up in the courtyard of a Shiite mosque during the funeral of a Mosul university professor. Witnesses say they heard a giant explosion and then saw the mosque consumed in a ball of fire.

Mosul has been the scene of a series of bombings and drive-by shootings targeting the Shiite majority and Iraqis working with U.S.-led forces.

This is the latest round in a string of insurgency attacks this week that include the killing of two top ranking Baghdad police officials and an assassination attempt on Iraq's interim planning minister.
