Bloggers Face Jail In Iran
Story aired: Monday, November 22, 2004

The battle between conservative clerics in Iran and the reformist movement there has gone virtual. Over the past six weeks, about 20 journalists and computer technicians in Iran have been detained, after posting reformist messages on the internet.

Iran's judiciary has shut down over 100 reformist publications in the last few years, forcing some journalists to start internet blogging. There are now over 100,000 Iranian weblogs, and as many as 11 bloggers could go on trial in Iran this week. Joining us from his home in Toronto is Hossein Derakhshan. He is a journalist originally from Iran, and he has been following events on his own website: stop.censoring.us.
